Changelog
What's shipped, recently.
Pulled from the real commit history, in plain language instead of developer shorthand. Sgeulai isn’t on the App Store yet, so this is a look at the pace of the work, not a promise of what’s coming next.
October 1, 2026
- Import and Export are tidier: the menus keep the everyday formats, and More Imports… and More Exports… open a window with every format and its options.
- New ways in: a folder of Markdown or text files (the way Ulysses, iA Writer, Obsidian and Bear keep a book), yWriter 7 projects and novelWriter projects, with their characters, places and each scene’s links.
- Export to Aeon Timeline, as a file Aeon’s own import reads, with each date’s precision kept and re-exports updating rather than doubling.
- Compact Document repacks the project file and says how much it saved; the maintenance commands fold into a Works & Data submenu.
September 30, 2026
- On the series timeline, earlier books stay in view as greyed reference, each in its own colour.
- Draft Here keeps to what the point-of-view character knows, and to what the reader has reached.
September 29, 2026
- On the iPad, New Story Bible opens straight into the project, and Parts show in the binder.
September 27, 2026
- A 14-day free trial unlocks everything in Sgeulai Pro on your own book. Nothing is charged when it ends.
- The demo project’s notice sits in the toolbar instead of over the columns.
September 26, 2026
- The demo project unlocks every Pro tool to try, and keeps nothing you change.
September 25, 2026
- Parts are Story Bible records of their own, and chapter numbering can start again in each Part.
- Merging two records repoints the links already in the prose.
- Merge a scene into the one before it, or scenes back into their chapter, on the Mac and the iPad.
- File ▸ Rename… has a proper name sheet, and a place named with its region also answers to its bare name.
September 24, 2026
- Make any chapter into a Part, keep empty Parts, and click a Part to open all of it; Option-click its heading to stage every chapter in it.
September 23, 2026
- Wikilinks export to Scrivener as the name they show.
September 22, 2026
- Five C’s counts a Crisis Choice toward the Choices column, and says when a viewpoint has no want or need written down.
- Keystrokes and picked wikilinks no longer disappear when the editor redraws a moment late.
September 21, 2026
- A pass over the Relationship Graph: unconnected records can be hidden, importance sets how strongly a record shows, boxes separate instead of welding together, and a saved layout comes back separated rather than collapsed.
- Vocabulary Index counts a wikilink as the name it shows, not the type behind it.
- Citations start up only for a book that actually has any, and stay with the project they belong to.
- Import History reads cleanly — no empty parentheses, and a duplicate column reads as read.
September 20, 2026
- Search looks through what you wrote, instead of matching the manuscript title on every row.
- A record’s header says which record it is.
- Unlinked mentions show on screen, and the editor notices that were switched off come back.
September 19, 2026
- Sgeulai is free. Sgeulai Pro unlocks the rest as a single purchase — one unlock, not a ladder of paid versions.
- A locked row says so before you click it, rather than after.
- Checking the scene you’re writing is free; checking the whole book is Pro. Every way of getting your work back out stays free, whatever you’ve paid.
September 18, 2026
- The continuity check tells a mention from a depiction, so a book stops drowning in one rule’s false alarms.
- When a check can’t run it says which of three things happened, instead of blaming your book.
- Rewrite Selection rewrites a passage you chose, and shows the difference inside the prose.
September 17, 2026
- Long Sentences joins the style check as its nineteenth kind of finding, and Harper’s own style suggestions appear in the Style tab.
- A screen reader can reach a finding’s Ignore button.
- Sgeulai warns before anything that would send text to Claude — every feature, not most of them.
- The iPad offers Open Demo Project from its launch screen, and a project opens filled to the screen instead of shrinking under its own layout.
September 16, 2026
- The style check gains repeated openers, passive voice, negatives, dialogue tags, clichés, nominal style and named emotions, with three built-in word lists.
- The Family Tree lays out as families, compactly, with no lines drawn through cards; Scene Shape plots in reading order, taller, with scenes you can point at.
- EndNote XML imports as sources, the way Bookends and EndNote export it.
- The app moves onto its own typefaces, palette, spacing and icons throughout, on both platforms.
September 15, 2026
- The Submission Pack, written and checked before you read it. Ask Your Book answers a question and quotes where the book says so. Previously in the Series recaps the earlier books without spoiling this one.
- The Style Report ranks the weakest chapters in a manuscript.
- Citations format with citeproc-js and your project’s CSL style, link to Zotero and Bookends and stay current, and a note can be a footnote or an endnote and survive the round trip through Word.
- An AI run can be stopped with a Stop button or ⌘. — and Sgeulai now ships with a demo project, Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea.
September 14, 2026
- A rules-based prose style check, offline and built in: its findings underline in the editor and gather in a new Style tab, you can import your own words from a CSV, and you can ignore a finding you disagree with.
- Draft Here writes a passage at the caret, checked against the Story Bible before you see it.
- Look up and pin a Story Bible record beside the scene you’re writing, and continuity is checked as you type.
- Deleted Story Bible records go to a Trash instead of vanishing; Import History records what each import created and can revert it; and Document Health gathers six trailing-data checks into one report.
- Writing goals are per project now and can log sessions to Calendar, and readability is measured chapter by chapter rather than only for the whole book.
September 13, 2026
- Sgeulai quotes the price before an AI run, and stops at the spending limit you set.
- Import Project Files merges whole Sgeulai projects into one, and Sgeulai asks before re-importing a manuscript the project already holds.
- Pictures on iPad open the way Photos does, with Quick Look and arrow keys on the Mac.
September 12, 2026
- Four more Mac features reach the iPad, each with a way to get to them.
- A Word file’s tracked changes survive being imported on iPad.
- Settings says when the Keychain no longer holds your API key, and a new key is written before the old one is removed.
September 11, 2026
- Fable 5.1 joins the bundled model catalogue.
- The macOS help stopped sending three tools to a Labs submenu they had already left.
September 10, 2026
- AI analysis names records the way your book names them.
- The picture scanner stopped reading each image twelve times over.
- Editor notices get their own settings, and Add Picture works from the Story Bible table.
September 9, 2026
- The splash screen says what the name means, and the version can be read from it.
- Eleven features the manual had never mentioned are documented.
September 8, 2026
- The Mac and iPad binders agree about names, Pictures, Continuity and Paragraphs.
- Portraits are stored at 512px, with a way down for the ones already saved larger.
- The family tree arranges itself to fit, and the iPad binder stops squeezing the record out.
September 7, 2026
- The iPad gets a real New Manuscript, and stops making invisible books.
- Export Manuscript exports the book you chose, and names the file after that book.
September 6, 2026
- Sgeulai reads an Aeon Timeline project.
- Story Bible records can be deleted from the row itself or with ⌘⌫, and a backup is written before they go.
- An import that ran twice can have its duplicates folded together, and pictures nothing points at can be cleared.
- A Scrivener import shows progress while it runs, and an imported picture keeps the width Scrivener draws it at.
September 5, 2026
- Plottr files carry in and back out whole.
- Fixed Scrivener import doing nothing, silently, on a large project — and dropping every embedded picture on the ones that worked.
- Fixed the iPad’s import menu opening no picker at all.
September 4, 2026
- Twenty-four of the twenty-five analysis tools graduate out of Labs, each checked against its own tests first.
- Synonyms moves off ⌃⌥⌘D, which was shadowing macOS’s own Look Up.
September 3, 2026
- The Family Tree could not be scrolled, so half of it did not exist. It can now — rows are still generations, but everything inside them relaxes, and seven people who are not your relatives stop taking up your family’s row.
- A new rule flags two records that say the same thing.
- Records left pointing at a manuscript that’s already gone are swept up.
September 2, 2026
- Creating a character crashed the app. Fixed — along with a scene’s location and date having nowhere to be typed, and a family recorded as “son of” drawing a chart of empty boxes.
- Export Manuscript (Markdown): a folder of plain files, one per chapter.
- Importing 4,000 research highlights goes from 13.8 seconds to 0.78, and saving stops paying for the whole project every time.
- The Family Tree gains an Ancestors pedigree, placeholder relatives, zoom, hover, filtering and Rearrange.
August 31, 2026
- The iPad gains the History band, wikilinks, the Family Tree and a denser Story Bible.
- The splash screen’s mirrored S is fixed, and the launch sequence reworked.
August 30, 2026
- The iPad gets a live Story Bible pane beside the manuscript, Search & Replace, the AI toolset and continuity checking.
- Export from iPad: PDF, RTF, DOCX, EPUB and Scrivener — and Comment on Selection.
- Import on iPad: Markdown, Plottr, Highlights backups, DOCX, EPUB and Scrivener.
- Live WYSIWYG Markdown styling, inline pictures in prose, atomic wikilink concealment, and Web Clipper support.
August 29, 2026
- The iPad gains the Plot Board and Character Arc, thesaurus lookup, Harper grammar checking and an app icon of its own.
- Its binder becomes usable on a large project, and the History item is wired up.
August 28, 2026
- The iPad companion takes shape: Story Bible record editing, a navigation shell verified on real hardware, a portable prose editor, and writing wired into the binder.
- The Analysis and Labs sections, Structure, Manage Types and Manage Templates, and a manuscript-scope picker.
- Importing a manuscript archive, and a touch equivalent of Add to Story Bible.
August 27, 2026
- iCloud sync: checkpoints when a window closes rather than only when the app resigns, file-coordinated writes, and a sheet for choosing which version to keep when two devices disagree.
- The Family Tree arrives as an analysis tool, built on directional parent, sibling and spouse relationships.
- The Plot Board groups arc lanes into Main Plot, Subplot, Character and Other, with character-state markers on character-owned lanes.
- Spoiler-Safe Canon Export: a Story Bible PDF filtered to what a reader who has finished a given book is allowed to know. Series Continuity compares a character’s recorded states across books.
August 26, 2026
- Story Bible types you define yourself — your own record types and fields, wired through the binder, the pickers, import, export and the AI extraction.
- Bible Templates replace the two systems that came before, and any record can be saved as one.
- Writing History logs what you wrote and revised, with streaks and rollups.
- Scene Grid becomes Scene Shape, and a real spreadsheet Scene Grid takes its place. Word tracked-changes export, unlinked-mention detection across Story Bible fields, and Find & Replace working in Combined view.
August 25, 2026
- Experimental becomes Labs, and Labs tools compare up to four manuscripts at once.
- A project-wide Link Integrity report, and MissingSource — the last continuity rule that had never been implemented.
- Fixed Character Arc scroll jank, the Relationship Graph’s default view, Timeline overlap, Readability Comparison’s bar alignment, and Scene Grid rendering with no height at all.
August 24, 2026
- Imported DOCX tracked changes and comments can be reviewed one at a time, surfaced in the editor instead of buried in a toolbar menu, with your prose snapshotted before any decision is saved.
- Review history merges across repeated Update Existing Manuscript rounds, and archived chapters stay out of it.
- Story Bible comments export as real Word comments.
August 23, 2026
- A structure beat can now span multiple chapters instead of belonging to just one, with the app suggesting where to place it and the option to ask AI for a starting point.
- Readability Comparison now follows the manuscript you're working on instead of setting every manuscript in the project side by side — it never shows more than one book's numbers at once.
- Renamed two saved structure templates that had borrowed a commercial beat sheet's trademarked name: “Save the Cat” is now “Save Your Story,” and a project still carrying the old built-in “Story Grid” name picks up its current name, “Whole-Book Shape,” automatically.
- Manuscript files get their own icon now, and the corkboard's goal-progress tint and the timeline/history views got a visual pass.
August 22, 2026
- Added the Sgeulai Handbook — a full manual, sixteen chapters, covering the app end to end.
- The Relationship Graph remembers its zoom level and type filter when you switch away and back, and the Story Bible's minimum-importance filter no longer silently stays on after you meant to clear it.
- Fixed a caching bug where editing a field wouldn't show up everywhere that field appears until something else changed.
- The Antidote toolbar button now only shows up when Connectix is actually running.
August 21, 2026
- Added two new analysis tools, Readability Comparison and Vocabulary Index, and History's research questions can now go to any AI provider you use, not one fixed choice.
- Theme is now a full Story Bible entity with its own tab and fields, scene-splitting on import recognizes more manuscript formats, and several reference-integrity gaps are closed so deleting an entity can't leave a stale link behind.
- Writing Goals can push a deadline straight into Reminders or Calendar, Timeline can switch between History sets, and Five C's got a Show Completed toggle.
- Sources can carry a cover image and full bibliographic fields now, and Research Highlights export straight to Markdown.
August 20, 2026
- Copy a highlight or note in Research Highlights and paste it into a manuscript or note — it now creates a Source citation or a Note in the Story Bible on its own, no separate “Insert Highlight” step.
- Research Highlights can import straight from Apple Books' own library now, not just a Highlights app backup — and book metadata (title, author, cover) is looked up automatically either way.
- Cast Grid can fill blank squares from the scene already written, and Thread Map's shared storylines now bend together at a chapter instead of drawing a separate grey bar between them.
August 19, 2026
- The Thread Map now draws each character's own route through the story, and infers ages for events where the manuscript doesn't state one outright.
- History's timeline ruler zooms and centres itself on the bulk of your dates automatically, instead of showing a century of mostly-empty space.
- Antidote's toolbar icon is Antidote's own again, and Continuity Check now scopes its results to the manuscript you're actually in.
August 18, 2026
- Chapters and scenes can carry their own in-story date now, and Find Only What's Missing fills it in for you rather than asking twice.
- History has its own place in the toolbar — a visible switch, and a proper way in instead of a hidden setting.
- Building a real-world timeline from scratch now assembles a research brief you can hand to the AI of your choice — Sgeulai doesn't do the research itself, and doesn't pretend to.
August 17, 2026
- Added the Thread Map — your book drawn as a transit map of who was where, and when.
- Every toolbar icon is now drawn from Sgeulai's own brand marks, not borrowed from Apple's system symbols.
- Reworked AI analysis: whole-book reads, a richer prompt, and nothing discarded if a reply comes back truncated.
- Added Find Only What's Missing — tells the AI what's already on record so it stops proposing duplicates.
August 16, 2026
- Markdown tables render as a real grid while you edit them, not raw pipe characters.
- Fixed Find & Replace marking your own prose as AI-written by mistake, and a handful of other editor formatting bugs.
August 15, 2026
- The whole toolbar icon set — Import, Export, Tools, Web Clipper — is drawn from Sgeulai's own brand font now, replacing a run of placeholder glyphs.
- You can now export a manuscript and its Story Bible into another project.
